Heartland Hospice Moose Jaw began in 2013, inspired by Arlene Kolosky. While courageously facing her own end-of-life journey, Arlene recognized the need for hospice palliative care in Moose Jaw. While she was fortunate to spend her final days at home, she understood that not everyone would have that option. Motivated by this, she gathered a group of close friends to advocate for hospice palliative care in the community. Together, they laid the foundation for Heartland Hospice, an organization dedicated to fulfilling Arlene’s dream.
Heartland Hospice, along with the generous support of the community, established the first dedicated hospice room at Pioneer Lodge in 2019. In 2020, Heartland Hospice began developing the Serenity Garden, and in 2021, the organization achieved official charity status. In 2025, in collaboration with the Saskatchewan Health Authority and the Ministry of Health, Heartland Hospice opened a dedicated palliative care wing serving Moose Jaw and the surrounding area.
Today, Heartland Hospice remains guided by Arlene’s vision, supported by a dedicated volunteer Board of Directors comprising 12 members.
Heartland Hospice Moose Jaw Inc. works collaboratively with both the Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) and the Ministry of Health (MOH) on initiatives to support the delivery of patient and family-centered care within palliative hospice care.
